Cong leader killed in Burdwan

Tension gripped Galsi village in Burdwan district after a Congress leader in the area died after being beaten by a mob late yesterday night. Satyanarayan Karmakar,a 75-year-old local committee Congress leader at Galsi in Burdwan,along with his son Rajshekhar,had held a meeting in the village yesterday as part of the pre-panchayat poll activity of the party. On his way back around 9 pm yesterday,both father and son were gheraoed by a mob and beaten up badly. They were admitted to the local hospital where around 1 am today,Karmakar succumbed to his injuries. Police have arrested five persons in the incident. There are two TMC workers among those arrested,said sources in the police.
