Nearly a month has passed since a woman was allegedly raped by three personnel of Rapid Action Force (RAF) at Charbathanpara village in Murshidabad, but the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Behrampore is yet to issue an order for a detailed investigation into the womans claims.
After hearing the complaint, made on camera on May 27,CJM Shantanu Jha had asked the sub-divisional police officer of Domkal to submit the general diary entry register and relevant record of Raninagar police station before June 9. Sources said that some of the records provided by the police were found to be insufficient, leading to the CJM demanding complete records.
The woman had told Jha that on May 16 political clashes erupted at her village and a sub-inspector was killed. Thereafter, police rushed in and ransacked the village, she alleged, adding that amid this three RAF personnel raped her inside her home. She had also named the officer-in-charge (OC) and additional OC of Raninagar police station in her complaint.
Meanwhile, three weeks after making the complaint, the victim was sent for a medical examination on the direction of the district superintendent of hospitals. The results are awaited, sources said.
An NGO,which has taken up the issue, has shifted the woman to an undisclosed location following threats. There is immense pressure on her to withdraw the complaint. Several of our people are also being threatened. The CJM was supposed to issue the process order on June 12,but is yet to do so. We are waiting, said secretary of Masum,Kirity Roy.
