Calcutta HC bail to DYFI leader in attack conspiracy case

Leader of CPIM’s youth organisation, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Kalatan Dasgupta was granted bail by the Calcutta High Court on Thursday, in a case of alleged conspiracy to attack junior doctors protesting the rape and murder of a woman doctor in RG Kar Hospital on August 9. He was given bail with a surety of Rs 500.

Dasgupta was arrested along with one Sanjiv Das, on September 14, after a purported audio clip of a phone call was released by TMC leader Kunal Ghosh, who alleged that a conspiracy was hatched to attack the medics outside Swasthya Bhawan in Salt Lake and defame the state government.

It also asked the state to file an affidavit citing the reasons behind the arrest.

“Kalatan was arrested illegally, it was proved in the HC,” DYFI state secretary Minakshi Mukherjee said.
