BJP MPs from West Bengal will meet Union Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Giriraj Singh to apprise him of the alleged corruption that has taken place in the implementation of the MGNREGA scheme in the state, the party’s state president Sukanta Majumdar said on Sunday.
The BJP’s Balurghat MP said this a day before the Trinamool Congress’ protest in New Delhi over non-payment of funds for Bengal under welfare schemes, including MGNREGA.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee have also sought an appointment with Giriraj Singh in October to hold talks over the matter.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Majumdar said, “The TMC is doing a drama over the issue. All they did is indulge in corruption over implementing the Centre’s schemes. A delegation of our MPs from Bengal will meet Giriraj Singh in the coming days to apprise him of the corruption that has taken place here. We will also highlight the TMC’s drama in staging a protest in the national capital.”
The state BJP Mahila Morcha members will sit on a dharna in front of the Gandhi statue at Mayo Road in Kolkata on Monday to protest against alleged atrocities on women in Bengal, he said.
The protest will coincide with TMC’s protest at Rajghat in Delhi.
Reacting to the BJP’s plans, senior TMC leader and party MP Sougata Roy said, “This is what they (BJP MPs) do. They always work against the interests of the people of Bengal. Their only job is to look for ways to stop funds for the people. Our main objective is to ensure that the poor are not deprived of their rights. As far their Mahila Morcha protest is concerned, I don’t know whether they have enough workers to stage a dharna.”
