Dismissing the Bengal Global Business Summit to begin on Wednesday as direction-less, state BJP president Rahul Sinha on Tuesday claimed that the summit is a “futile exercise” yielding no result. “There is no definite list of the participants. It is only an imitation of the Vibrant Gujarat, but this summit, similar to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Singapore, would be fruitless,” he said.

Talking about Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari’s participation in the summit. he said the Union ministers didn’t want to avoid it and give an opportunity to the state government to criticise the ministers and the Centre.

Jaitley and Gadkari are also scheduled to attend a conference on Goods and Services Tax (GST) organised by the Traders’ Cell of BJP, at Howrah. BJP national secretary Siddarth Nath Singh would also be present at the occasion.
Sinha also demanded that the TMC initiative of membership against money should be monitored by central investigating agencies. “The TMC should know that any amount above Rs 20,000 should only be paid and accepted in cheque. If they are planning to take the amount in cash, they would be doing something illegal. I would request the central investigating agencies to investigate into these transactions as there might be an attempt through this to convert all the black money siphoned off from the Saradha Group into white,” Sinha said.

Defending the Centre’s ordinance to amend the Land Acquisition Act and the GST Bill, Sinha said the farmers would be benefitted in the long term and that the TMC was opposing it for its own political gain. “They are desperate and are looking for a way to escape the CBI investigation into the Saradha scam and probably trying to hit a bargain but that will not work,” Sinha said.
