Birbhum police seals Jharkhand border

After the Maoist attacks in West Midnapore and Purulia districts during the first phase of polls on April 30,the district police of Birbhum have sealed the Jharkhand border following a call for boycott of polls by the Maoist outfits.

After the Maoist attacks in West Midnapore and Purulia districts during the first phase of polls on April 30,the district police of Birbhum have sealed the Jharkhand border following a call for boycott of polls by the Maoist outfits.

Security personnel have been keeping a close vigil along the Jharkhand border and are checking vehicles plying there. Birbhum goes to the polls on Thursday in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state.

Raj Kanojia (IG Law and Order) said the Maoist groups are active in Birbhum bordering Jharkhand. Twenty companies of Central paramilitary forces and state armed police have been deployed in the district for election purposes. The state government has also requested the Jharkhand police to continue patrolling along the Birbhum border to check the movement of Maoist outfits.
