Expressing indignation at the announcement by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the Central government’s decision to keep the entry of FDI in retail trade on hold,CPM state committee secretary Biman Bose on Sunday said the Centre should have announced it in the Parliament.

Bose,a member of CPM Politburo, said this while addressing a press conference at the party state headquarters at Alimuddin Street.

“Recently I was in Delhi and I heard that the Congress was considering four options to keep the alliance intact. But whatever they have to say, they should say that in the Parliament, not to the leader of an alliance partner,’’ Bose, the chairman of the Left Front, further said.

He also criticised the state government’s decision to initiate a judicial inquiry into the police firing at Magrahat in South 24 Parganas district that left three persons dead. “Instead of a retired judge heading the commission as the state government has ordered,a sitting judge should have been made the head of the commission.”

Biman said while the state electricity company has launched a drive to snap illegal electricity connections it has ignored the fact that many Trinamool Congress party offices have been illuminated by illegal power connections. “Will the Chief Minister launch a probe against this?’’ the CPM leader asked.

The CPM leader also alleged that farmers in the state, especially in Burdwan district, were committing suicides as they were not getting adequate price for paddy or jute.

“Six farmers have committed suicide in recent times. But the government remains oblivious. All farmer bodies affiliated with the Left will hit the streets soon to highlight the dangerous situation,’’ the Left Front chairman said further.
