Bail for man held in fake rape case

After the woman confessed to police about making false allegations under pressure from someone,whom she has not named,the police today told the court that Ajay’s custody was not required and an interim bail should be granted to him.

“I am happy and relieved that the investigation has been conducted in a proper manner. The fact that the police verified the allegations of the complainant is very encouraging,” said Ajay’s lawyer,Dibbendu Motilal. When asked if his client would to file a case against the woman,Motilal said the decision rests on Ajay.

Police however,said the trouble is far from being over for the woman. “After the investigation is over,necessary steps would be taken against the woman for providing false information and misleading the court,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) P K Ghosh.

‘It’s Defeat of conspirators’

Trinamool Congress Chief Whip Sovandeb Chattopadhyay,whose alleged right hand man is Ajay,on Tuesday termed the court’s ruling as “defeat of conspirators”. Without taking the name of party leader Swarup Biswas,whose wife’s allegedly played a role in getting the gangrape case registered,Chattopadhyay said: “I will ask police and media to further probe the matter. Several shocking revelations are waiting to be unearthed.”

‘Ready to talk with Sovon’

Swarup Biswas,who has been pushed on the backfoot,since the case turned out to be false,denied rift with Sovondeb and said: “There is no internal rift among any Trinamool members. We have only one leader in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Sovanda is a very senior leader. I don’t want to react to what he had said. But if he wants to talk to me and clear the confusion,I am ready for it.”
