Another encephalitis death; malaria, dengue cases reported

The health department sources said that they have received 25 cases of malaria and four cases of dengue.

The encepahlitis toll touched 135 Saturday with one more death being reported from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. The doctors in NBMCH claimed no fresh case of JE infection has been detected in 3the hospital in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the state health department has begun receiving reports of dengue and malaria infection.

Dr B Satpathy, director health services said, “No fresh (encephalitis) infection has been reported in the last 24 hours. One death has been reported in last 24 hours from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.” However, he admitted they are getting some cases of dengue and malaria.

The health department sources said that they have received 25 cases of malaria and four cases of dengue.

Meanwhile, Dr Sathpathy refuted all claims of crisis of Japanese Encephalitis test kits. “We have adequate number of kits for our testing centres. The crisis is created by a certain section of media. We are procuring kits straight from the supplier since the supply of NIV, Pune became irregular.” Some JE testing centres from Coohbehar districts and Jalpaiguri districts claimed that there was shortage of kits.
