After guiding Churchill Brothers to their maiden IFA Shield win,Okolie Odafa was understandably a satisfied man. Oozing confidence,the super striker is already setting his sights on a stellar performance in the I-League,as he pointed out during the post-match media interaction.

“We will have to carry this form into the I-League as well. The IFA Shield has served as good preparation for us for the I-League and Federation Cup. Our combination was good today,but I believe we need to make it even better in the I-League,” Odafa told reporters after the match. As for his own performance today,Odafa said: “It was quite hot today,and naturally,putting up a consistent show throughout the match was a tough proposition. Anyway,all of us in the team had an excellent match,which is why we won the championship.”

Odafa pointed out despite missing Edeh Chidi,Mohun Bagan had a big advantage in their home crowd.

The star striker from Churchill Brothers is also looking to help his side qualify for the AFC Cup. “It would be a great experience for me,and the others in the team,to get to play in the AFC Cup. For this,we must win both I-League and Federation Cup,” he pointed out.

Churchill Brothers’ coach Carlos Pereira pointed out after the match that the midfielders did an excellent job,feeding Odafa adequately.

The Churchill coach is now looking forward to the team’s show in the forthcoming Durand Cup. The Goan club has announced a Rs 1-lakh cash incentive for the players for winning the IFA Shield.
