Act on complaints from oppn candidates,SEC tells state govt

SEC allows filing of nominations from SDO instead of the BDO in 12 blocks.

State Election Commissioner Meera Pandey today said the Election Commission has received complaints from several districts where candidates were allegedly prevented from filing nomination papers for the panchayat polls. The SEC has requested the state government to take action on the complaints,Pandey said.

An SEC official said that according to an order issued three days ago,a candidate can file his/her nomination in the sub-division office (SDO) instead of 59 block development offices (BDO) on account of the tense law and order situation. Today the commission issued a fresh order regarding 12 blocks, including Nandigram (I),where candidates can file nominations in the SDO instead of the BDO.

It was learnt that the SEC had received complaints from those blocks that candidates of opposition parties were attacked near the block offices for which they could not file nomination papers.
