25-yr-old held for raping minor

Imtiaz took her to a nearby alley and allegedly raped her. “After that he threatened to beat me up and disallow me to take tuitions at his sister’s place if I spoke about it to anyone,” the girl told The Sunday Express.

The victim told her father about the incident who took her to the spot of the crime to identify the person but Imtiaz wasn’t there. “Later,she identified him at the neighbour’s place,” Ali said.

A police complaint was later lodged with Narkeldanga PS.

Ali said Imtiaz lived in the vicinity and frequented his sister’s place.

“Imtiaz has been arrested and was presented in court today. He has been awarded a 10-day police custody. He works at a local sweatshop,” said an official of Narkeldanga PS. He also said the girl had been taken to NRS Hospital for a medical test and a forensic test was due.

Most of the lawyers at the court were not ready to take up Imtiaz’s case. “We are not ready to take up his defence on moral grounds,” said Sajid Ali,a criminal lawyer at the Sealdah Court.
