Trouble broke out at MR Bangur Hospital and NRS Medical College and Hospital on Sunday over the allegations of medical negligence. Police detained six people in connection with the incident of ransacking at MR Bangur Hospital, where angry relatives of one Shiba Bista Chhetri,a resident of Boral in South 24-Parganas,died.

The condition of Chhetri, who had met with a bike accident near Elgin Road, began detoriarating after 11 am and soon he succumbed to his injuries. Hospital authorities, however, sent the body for a post mortem without informing the relatives of the patient .

Tension mounted after Chhetri’s relatives found that the patient was not on the bed. After running from pillar to post, they came to know that he had died and the body was at the morgue. Angry relatives gathered some local youths, broke and ransacked the hospital office, and beat up the ward master and assistant medical superintendent.

Late in the evening, similar violence hit NRS Medical College and Hospital after a woman,Sanchita Saha, who had delivered a still born baby, died. Relatives of Saha alleged that doctors did not take care of her as there was no nurse or doctor to look after her.
