2 cops suspended for ‘misbehaving’ with woman

On the night of April 23,the woman had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint against her husband and in-laws after they reportedly assaulted her. However,instead of registering her complaint,the two police personnel allegedly made indecent remarks.

“After being severely beaten by my in-laws,I rushed to the police station. My face was bleeding. I wanted to lodge an FIR. But the officer told me that since my husband was not around,I needed a boyfriend. They made indecent remarks,” the woman said.

It was only after she approached the media that her complaint was reportedly registered and the two officers suspended. Her husband has also been arrested.

The city police have decided to install surveillance cameras inside police stations to prevent such incidents from recurring. The cameras will be installed at three locations — inside the lock-up,at the main gate and in front of the desk of the duty officer. An officer of deputy commissioner rank will monitor the cameras from the divisional headquarters,said a senior police official.

In February this year,two officers at Park Street police station were removed from active duty and departmental proceedings were started against them in connection with a similar incident. The officers had allegedly misbehaved with a woman who had approached them about the progress of investigations in connection with her rape complaint.
