17 serving life term to be released

The state government on Wednesday decided to release 17 prisoners,who were serving life term sentences.

The state government on Wednesday decided to release 17 prisoners,who were serving life term sentences. Today is the Teachers Day and it is on this auspicious occasion our government has decided to release the 17 life term convicts, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said. Banerjee said earlier 66 convicts serving life sentences were released. As per senior law department officials,these 17 convicts are neither political prisoners nor ultras or important persons. Law Minister Moloy Ghatak said the 17 have been released based on their age,crimes and family background. All the 17 have spent 14 years in jails.
