One intruder was killed and two others were captured alive as the Army foiled a major infiltration bid at the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.
Defence PRO Lt Colonel Devender Anand said the three infiltrators had crossed the LoC into the Indian side around Saturday midnight. He said the Army troops fired at the infiltrators when they reached the barbed wire fence around 2 am, killing one of them.
The other two infiltrators who had fled the site were captured during searches in the nearby forest area in the morning, Lt Colonel Anand said, adding one of them was injured. He said the body of the slain infiltrator was also retrieved.
According to Lt Colonel Anand, both the men caught alive claimed the infiltrators were from Chanjal village’s Maidan Mohalla in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Three bags with “14 packets weighing nearly 17 kg narcotics, Pakistani currency, some documents, and eatables” were recovered from the three, he added.
“The Indian Army continues to remain alert on the Line of Control and is fully prepared to thwart any such attempts in the future too,” the Defence PRO said.
