“The airport Metro is not just for those wanting to catch a flight. With GO-111 gone, it will open up the southwest corridor of Hyderabad,” said KTR. (File photo) Telangana Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao Thursday gave a sneak peek into his government’s plans for Hyderabad in the coming years. Speaking to a gathering of realtors, the minister spoke of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s vision to increase the Metro network to 250 km in Hyderabad.
He said the new Airport Express Metro of 31 km from Shamshabad to Raidurg, the phase 2 expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited from BHEL to Lakdi-ka-pul (26 km) and Jubilee Bus Station to ECIL will add to the HMRL’s existing network of 71 km.
“The airport Metro is not just for those wanting to catch a flight. With GO-111 gone, it will open up the southwest corridor of Hyderabad,” he said. The GO-111 or the Government Order number 111 of the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh prohibited development or construction works in the catchment areas of the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar lakes up to a radius of 10 km. The KCR government recently withdrew the order, paving the way for constructions.
Talking about other initiatives, KTR said, “Pharma City, 30 km to the south of the airport, will bring a boom in south and southeast Hyderabad. Electronics and aerospace industries around Kongarakalan, Adibatla and Ghatkesar will develop eastern parts of Hyderabad. In the north to east section, there is a medical devices park and the proposed education city, film city, sports city are all part of the vision.”
“The government will phase out 3,800 Telangana State Road Transport Corporation buses and in the first phase, 1000 buses are being replaced with electric buses,” he added.
KTR said that the Musi beautification project could not be taken up during this term of the government but will be done when they return after the state election. He said that during his visit to Delhi to meet the Union ministers recently, he requested 150 acre of Defence land in the cantonment in exchange for 500 acre of land in Shamirpet and added that he got no positive response in this regard.
