Goa: DGP directs SPs to visit police stations for better public outreach, ‘move beyond social media’
Jaspal Singh, Goa DGP, said the SPs have been directed "to move beyond social media" and bring about changes on ground through public outreach.

Goa police chief has directed superintendent of police (SPs) in the state to visit at least one police station in a week in their respective districts and review core areas of policing in a bid to improve community outreach. The SPs have also been directed to seek assistance of panchayats and citizens in crime prevention, especially in raising awareness about consumption of narcotics.
Jaspal Singh, Goa DGP, said the SPs have been directed “to move beyond social media” and bring about changes on ground through public outreach. “SPs to visit police stations and meet public to listen to grievances. Resolution of public grievances must be the top priority. [There is a] need to involve communities in crime control,” Singh said, on X, formerly Twitter.
A letter issued by the office of Goa DGP Jaspal Singh on August 31, stated,”It has been observed that district Superintendent of Police (SPs) are not visiting police stations as per some fixed schedule or on surprise visit, except only during occurence of a heinous crime or law and order issues.”
According to the communique, the SPs have been directed to review disposal of cases, filling of integrated investigation forms, tenant and servant verification, status of POCSO cases, cleanliness of police stations and condition of equipment available in police stations such as CCTVs, photocopier, computers and breath analysers. Directions have also been given to the senior police officers to compile a list of habitual criminals and take action against drug peddlers.
“A scheduled or a surprise visit brings dynamism in police working and also ensures presence of police inspectors and other staff. It also provides an opportunity to interact with the field staff and resolve their grievances. Moreover, it also ensures updation of records, disposal of pending investigation cases, service of summons and warrants and disposal of public grievances. In addition, it improves cleanliness and upkeep of general and anti-riot equipment,” the letter read.
The order said that after the police stations’ visits, a report must be submitted to DIG (range) on action taken on the parameters mentioned.
“Preferably, during the visit, they should meet a cross section of people including members of people’s representatives institutions such as panchayat and municipalities to improve police outreach. During their interaction, SPs should highlight police work and also solicit their assistance in prevention of crime including awareness about ill-effect of drugs,” the letter said.
