On a day when the Congress cited “links” between Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and walked out of the Gujarat legislature, BJP MLA Manisha Vakil accused the Opposition party of helping the industrialist within the state and outside.
While speaking on the budgetary demands on Monday, Vakil suddenly switched from Gujarati to Hindi. “When his mother was heading the UPA (United Progressive Alliance), didn’t their government extend a loan of Rs 72,000 crore to Adanis?” she said, without naming either Rahul Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi.
The Vadodara City MLA continued with her list of five questions: Did the Rajasthan CM extend a Rs 60,000-crore industrial package to Adanis? Was Adani given special privileges to work on a coal project in Chhattisgarh? In 1990, when the Chimanbhai (Patel) government was ruling Gujarat, was Adani given land to build a port? In 1985, under Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, did the government help build a trading house for Adani?
“These five questions are not just mine, but of the entire country. Can those who walked out provide the answers?” Vakil said targeting the Congress.
Vakil was the only BJP MLA who spoke on the Adani issue. She was among the five ruling MLAs who spoke about the budgetary demands of the energy and finance departments.
