Dates for journalism course interview,test are out

Delhi University’s Department of Hindi will conduct the entrance test for its BA Honours course in Hindi journalism and mass communication,(BA Honours Hindi patrakarita evam jansanchar) on June 23 on the Arts Faculty campus,department officials said.

Meanwhile,DU has released the interview list for those who appeared for the Common Journalism Entrance Test (CJET) for admission to BA Honours in Journalism in English medium,offered by five DU colleges. Interviews for admission are scheduled from June 16 to 20 at the university’s South Campus.

Admissions to the course offered by four colleges of the university are conducted centrally by the Department of Hindi.

“The course covers visual,print as well as radio journalism and includes a year-end internship as well as two academic projects that students have to complete. All admissions are through the entrance test which will test multiple components — general knowledge,knowledge of the language as well as awareness of media and related issues. An interview component is also present,” said Dr Kumud Sharma of the University Department of Hindi.

The course is offered by Aditi Mahavidyalaya,Bhim Rao Ambedkar,Ram Lal Anand and Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa colleges of the university. Applications will remain open at the department office in North Campus till June 20.

Results of the entrance test will be out on July 5,and interviews will be held on July 9 and 10. Classes will begin on July 23,Dr Sharma said.

Only those who have scored a minimum of 50 per cent in their Class XII exams and those who studied Hindi till at least Class X are eligible for admission to the course.

Opportunities for those who complete the course have increased in recent times with the boom in Hindi news media,say department officials.

“Those who finish the course are given ample employment assistance. Many of our students opt for higher studies in the subject,including a PG Diploma in Hindi Journalism offered by the university’s South Campus,” said Dr Sharma.
