Almost two years after six persons were killed in the Zamrudpur Metro pillar collapse,a panel of experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),Roorkee, submitted a report blaming the architecture company for faulty design.
Following the submission of the report, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police questioned the officials of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC),contractor Gammon-India and architecture company Arch Consultancy, over the past two days.
Based on the questioning of various stakeholders and after analysing the report submitted by IIT-Roorkee,police said arrests would be made soon.
So far,we have questioned six persons, including engineers and other officials,of the three stakeholders. The report submitted by the panel of experts clearly mentions that the design submitted by the architecture firm was faulty, and the collapse was primarily due to that, said a senior police officer.
On July 12,2009,an under-construction girder on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur Metro line collapsed killing six people and injuring 12 workers at the project site.
We called the engineers of Arch Consultancy and questioned them at length. We confronted them on the basis of the report submitted by the panel of experts, said the officer. Following the incident, the architecture firm was blacklisted by the DMRC for five years.
We are trying to find out who was the person responsible for the design that was cleared. The owner and the engineer of the architecture firm were questioned, said the officer. A case of death due to negligence was registered against unknown persons following the incident and the case was transferred to the Crime Branch.
