Can a family show attract an audience? Well,if you are an Ambani,it can. A design and jewellery seminar turned into a show of strength, though Nita, the elder bahu was absent. Abhushan,a jewellery summit on till today at the The Ashok,is organized by Nina Kothari, daughter of late Dhirubhai Ambani and chairperson of Abhushan. Mother Kokilaben,a stalwart in the charity circuit, was present as chief guest. Sister-in-law Tina Ambani made an entrance, pretty in a pink Abu Jani suit. Tina’s presence added to the star power and,as compere Feroze Gujral informed the capacity crowd, the former actor had taken out time from her organisation Harmony,an initiative for senior citizens that has now “morphed into a movement”. Kothari’s Goa-based sister Dipti Salgaocar warmed up to some of the jewellery designers, between chatting with friend Malini Agarwalla of Malaga, whose stall,Kokilaben later visited. “Every industry needs a boost. It is a fabulous attempt by Nina to bring the craftsmen closer to the buyers,” offered Tina, obliging her fans from Sri Lanka for a photo-op. Is she always ambushed by her fans? “Of course,it feels nice to meet the people who admire you,” she replied. Making a brief presence was the girl-about-town Miss Universe Ximena Navarette from Mexico, promoting the cause of the girl child along with designer Sanjana Jon.
