Even Farooq Abdullah took a flight out of Delhi for South Africa. Your own grouse may have got nothing to do with a ceremony called swearing-in and may have everything to do with missing out on the IPL extravaganza in Johannesburg the devastating sixes, the dancing cheerleaders, the dropped catches. Delhi, dear fanatic,is not without its share of action.
With the second semifinal between Chennai Super Kings and Bangalore Royal Challengers and the final falling on the weekend, most restaurants and pubs are trying to recreate the Joburg atmosphere. With a three-tier,stadium-like seating arrangement that can accommodate 400 people, the newly opened Sports Bar at the Great India Place Mall,Noida,is playing to the gallery. A gigantic 47 ft x 12 ft screen will show the last two encounters of the IPL,while a deejay suspended 16 ft above the ground will belt out some apt club tracks with every six and wicket. Its Gurgaon outlet is not going OTT; it is offering a special semi-final package for Rs 999,which comprises unlimited liquor and a few snacks. We have over 80 per cent reservations. There have been huge corporate bookings and even college students are inquiring, says Nikhil Mirakhur, manager of the Gurgaon unit.
The Ivy at New Friends Colony is going all out for the final on Sunday, with four cheer leaders,a deejay and special offers. For Rs 750 per person, the resto-bar serves beer buckets and beverages at special prices. We are saving the best for the final. We can accommodate more than 500 people and are expecting a full house, says Ravi Bajaj, group manager,Ivy.
Café Morrison at South Extension has installed two projectors and an RJ for running commentary through the match. They will also reward fans with Delhi Daredevils jerseys designed by Manoviraj Khoshla and Rs 1,000 vouchers redeemable on the next visit. A jersey will be given out every half-hour, says Ayush Bhatia,co-owner,Café Morrison.
At 24/7,the bar at The Lalit, there is a 50 per cent discount on beverages, while the Shangri-La Hotel has a cover charge of Rs 500,which can be redeemable against drinks and snacks. One can also guzzle four cocktails with a vegetarian or non-vegetarian kebab platter for Rs 1,200.
The Park Plaza,Gurgaon, offers a choice of sizzlers like Drunken Bratwurst Sausages and Tempura Chicken Frankies and unlimited free beer for Rs 600 per person. The Park,CP,is merging cricket and fashion for the final. Their poolside restaurant Aqua is serving beer, lamb chops and barbecued dishes. You can sip your beer and stroll through a walkway that recreates the magic of the Hollywood classic Casablanca with 15 up-and-coming designers showcasing their creations. Since not everyone is fond of cricket,we thought of keeping in mind a womans interest, says Debjeet Banerjee, assistant director,F&B,
The Park. The walls will have two enormous screens, while cheer leaders and shaadi bands that played at last years IPL matches in Delhi will be back in raucous action. We are trying to give a feel of the IPL here since Delhi missed its date with the league this year, says Banerjee.
