Twenty-four hours after a woman and her two sons were found murdered in the Bindapur area of Uttam Nagar, the police are yet to make any formal arrests. Seema (34),Kunal (7) and Nishant (4) were found with their throats slit at their home on Friday night.

After an extensive search of the house, the police have recovered a pair of scissors, which they claim were used for the crime. Seema’s husband Hem Chand has been detained after a statement was given by her father,Moti Lal. “Lal said that ever since they were married,Hem Chand used to beat Seema. He would often come home in an intoxicated condition and beat her up. Hem Chand, however, didn’t break down during extensive interrogation and maintained that he was innocent. We found blood on his hand when we arrived. When questioned about this,he claimed that in a moment of passion he had taken his sons in his arms,” a senior police officer said. The officer said there was no proof against Hem Chand to arrest him for the murders.

Another senior police officer said,“The scissors were found next to the sewing machine in the bedroom. Prima facie,it appears as if the children were murdered in their sleep, while Seema offered some resistance before being killed.”

The police have also detained two other persons, including Seema’s brother-in-law Naresh, for questioning.
