After converting a generation of music lovers to the religion of youthful melody and fun,Channel V now boasts of a cafe-cum-bar called Spot in Delhi. Nestled inside a row of restaurants, cafes and bars behind Select Citywalk mall in Saket,Spot resembles a typical Channel V set with its orange décor. Inside, there is an iPad wall that serves as the menu card, young gizmo freaks can play Victionary,a more technology-friendly version of Pictionary, and the washroom boasts a video booth. People waiting in the queue to the loo can make quirky and funny videos at the video booth and Channel V will air the best ones, says a Channel V official. Spot opens publicly from May 28 and,by 2013,the channel plans to have 30 such Spots across the country. Musicians with or without talent can vent their creativity from a wooden stage in the cafe,or from a larger open-air stage outside. Jam sessions and art shows are in the pipeline; a bowling alley, too,is set to come up in the next five months.
The walls of the cafe are covered with caricatures of iconic Channel V mascots such as the grumpy Sikh teacher,Simpu Singh, the acid-tongued Bai and the Bhai. The Channel V brand of humour also makes it to the menu, which lists delicacies such as a Thai dish called Thai Kwon Do,a chicken dish named Strip Tease,a corn preparation called Bhutta Singh,a prawn dish named Jhinga Jhingy and drinks such as Rumsay Brothers and Margmeimrita in the bar called Tully Vision. A table for two here costs Rs 800,reasonable in comparison with most of the other restaurants that Spot is surrounded by. As the channel V catchline says,A Bloody Cool Place.
