Two men, convicted of beating a man to death in a 2007 road rage case, were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau. The two men were held guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Sukhvinder alias Sukhi, and Pradeep, both 27 years old, were convicted for causing the death of truck owner Jagbir by beating him with a stick and stabbing him. They were also convicted for attempting to murder one Harbir, who was driving Jagbir’s truck.

However, the plea by their advocate that the young age of the two should be taken into account was ignored by ASJ Lau,who held that given the rise in road rage cases, stricter punishment is “the need of the hour”.

The court noted that both convicts were “habitual criminals”,accused in many other cases.

The incident occurred at Neelwal village near Samaypur Badli in March 2007.

A verbal altercation led to a fight between those convicted and Jagbir. The two also beat up the driver,Harbir, when he attempted to intervene.

Jagbir slipped into coma due to the injuries sustained and later died at the hospital.
