Opening new avenues for students and teachers, the Institute of Lifelong Learning (ILLL) is launching two new courses from this academic session.

To help research students,ILLL will introduce an Information Literacy for Research Competency Programme,in collaboration with the Delhi University Library System. “There is an information explosion in all fields. Students must also know how to cull out the information they want from this huge information bank. This course will help the students develop skills in research,” said A K Bakhshi,Director of ILLL.

In the first phase, the course will be available only to the MPhil and PhD scholars. This will be a 60-hour course. Classes will be held every Saturday at the ILLL campus.

The certificate of completion will be awarded by DU.

The second course is the Global Business Foundation Skills (GBFS) launched in collaboration with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM).

“This course will bridge the gap between industry and academia by equipping students with skills for better job opportunities. Around 20 Delhi University teachers will be trained by NASSCOM,” said Bakhshi. The course duration will be of 120 hours, split into two batches of 60 hours each.

Joint certificates from NASSCOM and ILLL will be awarded on completion of the course.

The course will be available in five colleges — Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College,Maitreyi College,SGTB Khalsa College,Sri Venkateswara College and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies. “Initially we will introduce this course only in five colleges but we plan to expand later,” said Bakhshi.

ILLL also launched a Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) in March, under which a student can assess his basic computer skills. DLP is a 40-hour free-of-cost self-study course available in English and Hindi in all DU colleges.

After taking the test, students will receive a joint certificate of ILLL- Microsoft Digital Literacy Certification.

Besides students,ILLL also aims to help head of departments (HOD) and principals to become better administrators. “We conducted a three-day workshop for principals of various colleges and HODs sometime ago. The response was overwhelming. Now we are planning to conduct such courses twice or thrice a year,” said Bakhshi.
