Two held for posing as food inspectors, extorting money

“The accused, Deepak Pahuja (35) and Salini Nanda (33), were arrested on Saturday. They were produced in court, which sent Pahuja to one-day police custody and Nanda to 14-day judicial custody in Tihar Jail,” police said.

Two persons, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly posing as food inspectors and trying to extort money from a sweets shop owner in Lajpat Nagar.

“The accused, Deepak Pahuja (35) and Salini Nanda (33), were arrested on Saturday. They were produced in court, which sent Pahuja to one-day police custody and Nanda to 14-day judicial custody in Tihar Jail,” police said.

The complainant, Sonu (24), told police, “The duo claimed they were posted with the Swachh Bharat Food and Cleanliness Department. On inspecting some sweets, they said they found a cockroach and issued a challan. Pahuja then asked him for a bribe of Rs 10,000. Sonu told his employer, who informed police.”
