Two get life term for murder

A Delhi court has sentenced two persons — Nooruddin and his nephew Shahid — to life imprisonment for murdering a man who asked them not to send obscene messages to his mother,sister and sister-in-law.

A Delhi court has sentenced two persons — Nooruddin and his nephew Shahid — to life imprisonment for murdering a man who asked them not to send obscene messages to his mother,sister and sister-in-law.

Holding the duo guilty of “firing a shot at the victim Ikramuddin’s head with the intention of killing him”,Additional Sessions Judge T S Kashyap said while the cases was not “rarest of the rare” and,therefore,no death penalty could be awarded,“both the convicts are sentenced to rigourous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000 each.”

In the case,the prosecution had argued that Shahid used to eve-tease Ikramuddin’s sister,follow her and make obscene calls to the women of the family. When Ikramuddin went to his house in April 2008 to confront him,Shahid called his uncle Nooruddin and one Nawab to accost Ikramuddin. The three beat him up and Nawab handed a pistol to Nooruddin,who shot the victim and fled. Nawab was declared a proclaimed offender in the case.
