Two arrested for assaulting councillor

Police have arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in the attack on a local councillor last year. While one of the accused was arrested from Delhi,the other was held from Gurgaon.

The accused,Bishambhar from Gurgaon and Vineet from Uttar Pradesh,were produced in court and remanded in police custody. Last year,Virendra Singh alias Binder Gujjar,a councillor from Ward 21, was shot at on April 28,a day before he was to file his nomination for the civic polls.

According to police,Bishambar has confessed that he and Vineet with other associates were involved in the incident. DCP (East) Maheshwar Dayal said,“We do not know whether they were from any gang,but these two were involved in the shooting.”
