Kitschy designs are not new for Sir Paul Smith. Which is probably why the idea of collaborating with another quirky label — Play Clan,a popular design brand based out of their store at Select Citywalk Mall,Saket — appealed to the British designer. “Paul had come across our products in London, picked up by customers he was familiar with. That’s how the collaboration was initiated,” says Himanshu Dogra, founder,Play Clan who unveiled the limited collection called ‘Del-Lon-Del,a Tale of Two Cities’,comprising cotton tote bags, cushion covers, journals, coasters and canvases, priced between Rs 900 and

Rs 23,000 on Wednesday. The collection, showcased at Paul Smith’s store at the Emporio Mall,Vasant Kunj, incorporates the Warli style of painting and combines Indian and British cultural symbols like the Lotus Temple,Qutub Minar, the great Indian train journey, the Big Ben,the Beatles, besides historical figures like Mahatma Gandhi and the Queen of England. “The effort was to combine the two distinctive cityscapes,” says Dogra. Despite heavy rain, the event saw a fair turnout which included Sunil Sethi, designers Rakesh Thakore,David Abraham,Gaurav Gupta and entrepreneur Ramola Bachchan among others. The limited edition collection will be available for the next three months at the brand’s showroom.
