The Delhi Police and the CISF may have raised a red flag regarding the security issues of the recently introduced Park and Fly facility at IGI Airport, but travellers are happy with the service.

The facility allows passengers using IGI Terminal 3 to park their vehicles on the premises and reclaim them on return.

To assuage fears of security threat, operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said the facility is more secure than the normal parking as stringent security measures are involved.

The facility was introduced on June 1,and since then the number of users has increased to 12 per day,a senior DIAL official said.

“Parking my car at the airport is very convenient; there is no hassle of booking a cab. For an infrastructure facility like an airport,a good parking facility is imperative for smooth traffic flow and is a significant criterion for determining passenger comfort,” said Nandini Singh,a regular flyer travels out of the city for short durations.

She said the facility made her feel comfortable, despite her hectic schedule.

Passengers who wish to park their vehicles in the facility have to fill in a form and and submit a copy of a valid identification proof along with their vehicle’s registration certificate (RC).

“The vehicles are checked on entry to the multi-level car park. We have under-vehicle scanners and the boot space is also checked. The parking area is covered by CCTV cameras with dedicated security teams, together with officials of CISF in plain clothes, keeping a 24X7 vigil. In addition to this, the CISF vigilance team and dog squads do random checking of vehicles,” the DIAL official said.

The Park and Fly is located at the premium parking area on the ground level, and offers facilities like a customer service desk,a secured and guarded parking space, and a dedicated fire fighting system.

A user has to pay Rs 500 for the first day,Rs 400 for the second day and Rs 300 for every additional day for parking vehicle at the facility.

“These slabs are more than 45 per cent cheaper than the standard parking charges,” the official said.
