A Delhi-bound train from Gorakhpur rammed into a bus near Bodaki station in Greater Noida on Tuesday morning.
The gate man,who was trying to push the bus off the tracks after it broke down, was injured and the engine of the Gorakhdam Express was derailed due to the impact.
Police said the bus driver,Surinder, jumped out of the vehicle just before the train crashed into it. The bus was dragged for over 100 metres, before the train came to a standstill. A few others who were helping push the bus were also reportedly injured in the accident.
The gateman was referred to the district hospital.
The bus was empty so we decided to push it (after it got stuck on the tracks). It was dark so we could not gauge the distance between the train and us. The impact was shattering,we all fell down, even those who were furthest from the bus, said Hariram,a bystander who sustained minor injuries.
Train services on the line were disrupted due to the accident.
A lot of trains have been shifted off course and we had opened the third track to allow the trains closer to the station to pass, said V Sharma,CPRO Northern Railway. According to the administration,it was a case of error on the part of the bus driver who should have signaled for the rail authorities to halt the train when he realised that the bus was stuck midway. We have already briefed the incharge at the station to avoid any accidents like these again. Thankfully, the bus was not ferrying passengers, said Uday Veer Singh,CO of Greater Noida.
