Block Uber, Ola and Taxiforsure websites immediately: DoT to ISPs

A DoT official has confirmed sending the notice to ISPs to block the websites of these firms in Delhi and send a compliance report on the same.

In March, the Delhi government has asked the IT ministry to block mobile apps of these taxi companies. The Transport department maintained that these companies were not operating legally as they were running operations without the necessary licences.

The official said a committee was formed to look into the matter. It recommended blocking the apps and also asked DoT to issue the order regarding the same. However, despite the ban, people are still able to access the services of these operators.

The government and the cab companies have been at loggerheads since last year after a woman passenger was allegedly raped by an Uber cab driver. A senior Uber representative said, “We have not received it. So, we can’t really comment,” he said.

Radio Taxi Union president Kunal Lalani said the union has been waiting for this move for quite some time. “It is a welcome step and it will give all of us a level-playing field,” he said.
