Another teenager apprehended for killing Delhi doctor; police say they were hired by nurse’s husband over extramarital affair

Earlier, the police said the 16-year-old boy, who was apprehended before, confessed he shot Dr Javed Akhtar, 55, a Unani practitioner, at a small nursing home on the instructions of the husband of a nurse working in the same hospital.

“The accused is claiming that the husband suspected an affair between the nurse and Dr Akhtar. The accused teen said he was in love with the nurse’s daughter. So, the husband promised he would get his daughter married to him if he killed Dr Akhtar. He is changing his statements about the motive. The claims are being verified,” said a Delhi Police officer.

The police are now questioning the nurse and her husband to verify the claims, sources said. Initially, the police said, the accused claimed a monetary dispute with Dr Akhtar but recanted later.

Dr Akhtar was found with a gunshot wound on his head in his cabin by the police team that arrived at the hospital. The police said two boys, aged 16 to 17, came to the hospital at around 1 am. They said one of the boys had an injured toe, which had been dressed by Mohammad Kamil, a staff member, the previous night.

The two boys then went to Dr Akhtar’s cabin for a prescription, and nursing staff Gajala Parveen and Kamil heard a gunshot moments later. When Parveen went to the doctor’s cabin, she found Dr Akhtar in a pool of blood and could not see the boys.
