Why did you decide to associate yourself with Food-Food,a 24X7 food channel?

Food is a huge category on television and this territory has to be captured. I first thought of this seven years ago and now it’s happening. I’d initially wanted to do it with Zee TV,since I have such a long association with them. But they were not ready at that time,so I moved on.

Do you fear that the channel will be niche?

Food touches every human being on earth. It won’t be a niche channel,it will be a specialty channel. All over the world,especially in the West,food channels have done extremely well and unfortunately,India is not exposed to it. With this channel,we will enter this domain too.

A lot of foodies are looking forward to the show Firangi Tadka. What is it about?

In India,international cuisine is cooked in a very unique way to suit the Indian palette. This is what Firangi Tadka is about. We will cook all types of cuisines,but in an Indianised manner.

What is the strategy behind Food-Food?

Apart from cookery shows like The Sanjeev Kapoor Kitchen and Sirf 30 Minute,there will be a lot of fun content like food and travel shows,entertainment and food shows,food-based reality shows and quizzes.

How is work progressing on your international food magazine?

Four issues of the magazine are ready to be published. It should be out by early 2011 and will be called SK. But if the magazine is integrated with Food-Food,then it will come out with the channel only.

What is your take on the popular MasterChef series in India?

Food is second priority in MasterChef India,unlike the popular MasterChef Australia,where the focus is on food. A popular film star is hosting the India series,so it is bound to be focussed on entertainment.

What are your expectations from the audience?

I am nervous,but I am also confident. The audience will appreciate a sincere effort.

Which is your all-time favourite dish?

It’s a very tough question. With so much variety available globally,I can’t pick one dish.

What is the secret behind staying so fit even after being such a foodie?

Sensible eating and a bit of work out. Name a contemporary Indian chef you like. Harpal Singh Sodhi is brilliant. He will also be hosting a show on Food-Food. Will you take part in a dance reality show like Jhalak Dikhla Ja again?Maybe yes.
