Days after its governing body decided to drop fifty undergraduate seats,St Stephens College on Monday said that those seats had been re-appropriated.
In its governing body meeting on May 16,college authorities had decided to drop undergraduate seats which, under the three-year programme were offered to applicants of Programme courses. However, under the four-year undergraduate format, those courses have been dropped and colleges are expected to distribute those seats among Honours courses.
St Stephens had decided to drop 50 of the 100 seats for programme courses citing lack of infrastructure. It had decided to redistribute the other 50 to Economics and English departments.
However, the college issued a statement about the re-appropriation of the 50 seats it had initially decided to drop. Of the 100 seats,50 have been given to Economics and 30 to English. Physics and Chemistry have been given 10 seats each, Karen Gabriel, spokesperson for the college, said.
