You’re working with a first-time director. Was that a difficult decision?
When I heard the script that Prem Soni wrote,I immediately liked it. It’s written so naturally,there is no over-the-top drama. Since he’s written it himself,we thought it best that he directed it. He’s done television before and we had a great team to support him so I had no doubt at all.

Who convinced you to campaign during the Maharashtra assembly elections?
It was my own decision. I called up Ritiesh (Deshmukh) and told him that I wanted to campaign for his brother Amit. I also told Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan that I wanted to campaign for him and went to Nanded,even thought at that time Chavan was in Mumbai. All the people that I have campaigned for,I know them personally and know for sure that they will do good work.

What was your first tryst with politics?
When I was studying at Scindia School,Madhavrao Scindia came to visit and left us all completely impressed. He came in a chopper,spoke and left in his chopper. This was about 30 years ago. He was such an inspiration. At that point,all of us decided that we wanted to grow up and be just like him.

Will you ever stand for elections?
No,I want to concentrate on managing my charity Being Human. I will always help candidates that I believe in.

How does Being Human work?
Everyone spends a lot of money on clothes. All this money goes into the pockets of rich people. If people have the choice of buying well designed clothes with a good brand and support a cause,I’m sure they will do that. When you buy clothes from Being Human,you know it’s well made and all the profits are being used for charity. After its inauguration at the India Couture Week,the clothes will be available on the website and in shops soon after.
