Sound and light shows at two monuments miss Games deadline

The two new sound and light shows at the Red Fort and Purana Quila that were slated to be showcased during the Commonwealth Games have hit a roadblock.

The two new sound and light shows at the Red Fort and Purana Quila that were slated to be showcased during the Commonwealth Games have hit a roadblock. While the show at the Red Fort has been called off as the technical work could not be completed on time,Purana Quila show is yet to get final approval from the authorities.

The two shows were being developed by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and were slated to begin in time for the Games. The Red Fort show, for which even the cabling work for the lighting system has not been done, was delayed as the project was reportedly sanctioned late.

Officials said the previous light-and-sound show at Red Fort that was cancelled from September 15 has now been resumed. The earlier show has been running for over 25 years and is said to be outdated. On Sunday, less than 200 visitors attended the show, which has a seating capacity of 500,for the English and Hindi shows put together.

Meanwhile, after a trial show was conducted at the Purana Quila that was attended by senior officials of the ITDC,Archaeological Survey of India,Ministries of Tourism and Culture, officials said certain changes were suggested. A sequence of the Mahabharata and the musical performances in the show were said to be lengthy, and some officials also raised objections to the authenticity of historical facts in the script. Another trial show was held on Monday, and if approved, the new show is will soon open at the Purana Quila.
