Snag causes delay on Noida Metro

A technical snag on the overcrowded Noida Metro line left thousands of passengers stranded at various stations between Dwarka,Noida and Anand Vihar.

A technical snag on the overcrowded Noida Metro line left thousands of passengers stranded at various stations between Dwarka,Noida and Anand Vihar on Friday morning. The problem was caused by a snag in the signalling system that led to loss of train identification numbers, which in turn delayed trains on Line 3 and 4 for over 30 minutes.

Line 3/4 (Dwarka Sector 9- Noida City Center/ Anand Vihar) has witnessed frequent signalling problems on the Overhead Electrification line. On October 19,a similar problem had led to delays on the same line.

Metro trains are run on Automatic Train Operations as part of which every train is given an identification number. When the software system loses the ID number, trains are stranded on the tracks and have to be operated in the manual mode by drivers at a restricted speed, which causes bunching of trains.

The problem on Friday was detected at 9 am,the peak rush hour. All trains on the line came to a halt and had to switch to the manual signalling mode. “Trains were run on manual signalling till 11.48 am. From 9.09 am to 11.48 am,trains were run at a restricted speed of 25 km/hour,” a DMRC spokesperson said.

Line 3/4 is the busiest Metro corridor and ferries over 6 lakh passengers per day.
