Justice Leila Seth speaks on her book at Bal Bharati

Bal Bharati Public School was visited by Leila Seth, the first woman Chief Justice of an Indian state and the first woman judge of Delhi High Court on May 10,2011. She was here to elucidate on her book: We the Children of India – The Preamble to Our Constitution. Even today, understanding our constitution and even the preamble is not something that everybody has achieved. So,in order to help us relate to our own nationality and comprehend the essence of the preamble,Justice Seth came out with a book. Through it,she makes the preamble understandable to even the youngest of readers, tackles all the concepts and explains them in a manner, everyone can grasp and enjoy. In a session with Class V students, she elaborated on her book and addressed the students with so much ease and patience that even something as complicated as legislature, executive and judiciary got across the young learners quite well. The simplicity of her explanation could not be missed, and even the teachers enjoyed listening to her. After Class V,Justice Leila Seth met Class XII students, during which she faced another round of questions — most of which were linked to current issues. From India’s rampant capitalism, delays in court cases to our constitutional structure and even the Citizens’ Ombudsman Bill (what we all know as The Jan Lokpal Bill),everything was discussed. The discussion ended with Justice Seth reciting a short poem from her book called We,the children of India only. After that, she signed some of her books, and students as well as teachers were seen scrambling to buy them. All in all,it was an enlightening session, and the students considered themselves fortunate enough to meet a personality who was such a rich source of inspiration.
