Annual Science and Math Expo at Indian School

The Indian School held its annual Science and Maths Exhibition on August 17. With Raksha Bandhan close onits heels,the children also revisited the tradition of Gurudev Rabindranath on the occasion,with girls as well as boys tying rakhis on each other’s wrists to make a point on gender equality. Pankaj Jalote,director,Indraprastha Institute of Technology,who was the chief guest on the occasion,inaugurated the exhibition by unfurling the national flag. Then he shared his thoughts on the subject of ‘Networking and Terror’,which was the focal point of the exhibition. School chairman Prafull Goradia emphasised on the importance of developing a scientific temperament in society. Parents were also present in large numbers to encourage students in that regard. DNA testing,breath-analysing tests,stress tests and counselling were the highlights of the science section. Global cities,a quiz on Delhi’s historical heritage,a powerpoint presentation on US debt issue and a pictoral representation on the use of networking sites by terrorists provided diverse and rich insights for visitors. The Maths department created castles from different kinds of polygons,besides models from other areas of the curriculum,which are to be preserved as a resource for the School Maths laboratory. Holiday homework,done at all levels,were also put on display. This exercise of enrichment was a very rewarding experience for teachers,students and parents alike because children sighted and stretched the horizons of their knowledge successfully.

Investiture ceremony at Venkateshwar School

Anyone can steer a ship but it takes a leader to chart the course.Venkateshwar International School,Sector-10,Dwarka,organised its ninth Investiture Ceremony on August 5,2011,with full fervour,and the newly selected student executives vowed to abide by the creed of their alma mater and fulfil their duties to the best of their abilities. The solemn ceremony commenced with the chanting of the auspicious Gayatri Mantra,followed by an invigorating speech delivered by the principal,Mrinalini Kaura. The newly-constituted Student Council — consisting of prefects,house captains,sports,cultural and literary captains — took their oaths along with the head boy (Suvigya Awasthi) and head girl (Kripa Nagrajan). Later,some enlightening powerpoint presentations on leadership camps of the middle and primary wings were presented. An inspiring song,Mil Gaye Jab Hamare Kadam se Kadam,motivated everybody to forge ahead as a united team. In a defining moment, Suvigya Awasthi was also awarded the student of the year award by a prominent media organisation. The solemn ceremony culminated with the National Anthem.

Teacher’s Day celebration at DAV,Dwarka

DAV Dwarka celebrated Teacher’s Day with grandeur. The occasion was celebrated with an array of cultural programmes,presented by students of Class X as well as teachers. Melodious bhajans sung by teachers created a devotional atmosphere,and all the people present felt like expressing their heartfelt gratitude to their own gurus. The school also witnessed an amazing fusion of Kathak and Bharatnatyam,presented by the girl students of Class X. The boys of Class X paid tribute to their teachers by presenting a wonderful dance performance. However,it was a mesmerising dance performance by teachers that stole the show,with everybody tapping his feet to the rhythm of the beats. The function was graced by the chief guest,school chairman T R Gupta,who exhorted teachers to be the beacons of light forever. Ajay Kapoor,Director,Oracle India Foundation,embellished the occasion with his presence and thanked the teaching fraternity for being the shapers of India’s future . The programme culminated with the words of wisdom and enlightenment by principal S.S. Mukhija,who praised the teachers for their invaluable efforts and motivated them to follow the ideals of the great and timeless teacher S Radhakrishnan.

Poetry recitation contest at Springdales School

Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,hosted the 9th KusumVerma Memorial Inter- School Poetry Contest on August 25,2011,organised every year in memory of the late KusumVerma,Head of English Department at Springdales,Dhaula Kuan. Verma had passed away in 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer.This competition reflects her indomitable will and love for life,which is celebrated through the poems recited on this occasion. The programme was attended by Dr Rajni Kumar,Chairperson,Springdales Education Society,Dr.Jyoti Bose,Principal,Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,and many other distinguished guests. Students from leading schools of Delhi recited self-composed poems on Way of the World and I Do Believe in Category- A. In Category- B,they recited the compositions of famous poets on the themes A Farewell to Arms and The Wandering Soul. Eminent scholars and writers judged the contest. In her welcome speech,Dr Jyoti Bose mesmerised the students with her recitation of the 53rd sonnet of William Shakespeare. Later,giving away the prizes to the winners,Amit Dahiyabadshah,a noted poet,complimented the school for encouraging budding poets by initiating the contest.He enthralled the audience with the rendition of two of his favourite poems,The Last Will of the Tiger and Chidhiya. The first prize in each category was won by Saba Dave of Springdales School and Tanya Ghai of Blue Bells School. In Category A, Shrishti Vasudev of BlueBells School won the second prize,and in Category B,Mallika Dhawanof Springdales School emerged winner. The proud winners of the trophy were the students of Blue Bells School. The judges congratulated all the participants on their sterling performances. It was a befitting tribute to Kusum Verma as well as lovers of poetry.

Chairman of St Mark’s school felicitated by Delhi CM

It was a proud moment for St Mark’s SrSec Public School,Meera Bagh,when its chairman,T P Aggarwal,was felicitated by the Chief Minister of Delhi,Sheila Dixit,for being elected as the First Vice President of the International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations,an apex body of global film producers. He was granted the honour during the 64th Cannes Film Festival held in May 2011. Aggarwal is currently the chairman of the Film Federation of India as well as president of the Indian Motion Picture Producer’s Association.
