Mark’s elects new student council members
St Mark’s,Meera Bagh,held the investiture ceremony for the academic session 2011-12 on the August 12.The ceremony was attended by chairman T P Aggarwal,Principal Anjali Aggarwal,Vice-Principal Veena Wahi and Educational Supervisors Ritika Anand and Anita Gupta. Principal motivated everyone with her inspiring speech.The chairman did the honours by awarding badges to the new student council. The elected students are Danish Girdhar (Vice-Head Boy),Sanyam Jain (Vice-Head Girl),Ravit Malik (School Captain,Boy),Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia (School Captain,Girl). Shubhankar Jain (Gandhi House),Anish Sharma (Shastri House),Tashleen Kaur (Nehru House) and Roshima Jatav( Patel House) were elected as the new House Captains while Parth Dabas and Tanvi Sharma were elected as the Sports Captains.
h Dewang Mehta memorial IT competition held
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans Mehta Vidyalaya organised the 11th Dewang Mehta Inter-School IT competition on Wednesday,August 10,2011,on the school premises. This annual event marks the birth anniversary of late Dewang Mehta,former president of NASSCOM and the pioneer of information technology in India. Around 29 schools from in and around Delhi competed with each other for the coveted overall winners trophy. The chief guest for the occasion was Vishnu R Dusad,the CEO and MD,Nucleus Software Exports Limited. He along with other dignitaries,were felicitated with a bouquet of flowers. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries,which was accompanied by the chanting of Shanti Mantra. This was followed by the Sarevadharma prayer presented by the school choir.
Mrs Rekha Sharma,the school Principal in her welcome speech spoke of Dewang Mehta as an illustrious alumni who brought benefits of IT to common man.
Surrendar Saini,the Chairperson,spoke about the importance of IT in our life and encouraged everyone to be tech-savvy. Quoting Mehta,she said,It is not important for everybody to sit and tap the keyboard,but what is important is to bring the benefit of IT to the common man. She said every year this competition is held to carry his message forward. Remembering her school days,she spoke of the importance of morning prayer in schools. In her words the morning prayer benefits a persons personal life. She thanked Mr Vishnu Dusad for his continued support to the institution and congratulated the 29 participating schools along with their teachers. Alka Jayaswal,HOD,Computer Department,announced the prize winners. The overall winners trophy was bagged by Sanskriti School while Air force Bal Bharti bagged the runners up trophy.
Interactive session with Oz author Ken Spilman
Students of Tagore International School Vasant Vihar had a wonderful interactive session with renowned Australian author Ken Spillman. One of the most versatile and prolific authors today,Ken writes for the age group of eight to twelve years. Given this background,the session was enjoyed thoroughly by the students of Class V who got an opportunity to have conversation with an eminent writer. With about thirty books to his credit,Kens first book was published when he was twenty five. Among his books the Jake series is the most popular. During his visit,he spoke about his latest book ADVITA and read out an excerpt from Jake series. He shared his reading interests,which included Rabindranath Tagore. The objective of his interaction was to generate interest in creative writing in children. He believes imagination is the strongest tool that a child is gifted with. Imagination is something,which is of your own and you can use it to reach indefinite height.
Apeejay students visit Altrincham School,UK
Malini Sridhar,Incharge of the Middle School,along with Babita Kathuria and 10 students of Classes IX and X of Apeejay School,Pitampura,visited Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in Manchester,UK. The visit reaffirmed and strengthened an important partnership of between Apeejay School with the host school in UK. It helped in nurturing established ties and building new partnerships by providing opportunities for discourse between the students of two countries. The main aim of the visit was to work on a collaborative project. Students worked on Bio-diversity of India with special focus on Delhis flora and fauna. Prior to the visit our students made power point presentations based on their research made on Yamuna bio-diversity park which was highly appreciated by the students and Principal of Altrincham Grammar School. Our students also got the magnificent opportunity to study and work on the subject of measuring carbon footprints under a collaborative project between AGSB and Apeejay.
Springdales School celebrates Hiroshima Day
An Inter School Peace Assembly was organised by Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,in collaboration with Centre for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace on August 6,2011 to commemorate Hiroshima Day. The assembly commenced with a Peace Dance performed by the host school,followed by the song A Moment of Peace. In her welcome address,Dr Jyoti Bose,Principal,focused on the need to strengthen the culture of peace and respect the sanctity of life. She also called upon the civil society to build a system of global justice to ensure international peace and security through nuclear disarmament and non proliferation. The program included a presentation by the peace volunteers of CNDP on Uranium Mining in Jadugoda highlighting its catastrophic effects on the local population and the environment. Students from different schools of Delhi participated in the Peace Festival to pay homage to the victims of Hiroshima and create awareness about the risks posed by nuclear weapons. Speaking on the occasion,Ms Vidya Rao,an eminent classical vocalist,and Mr Gauhar Raza,a distinguished scientist,applauded the School and CNDP for inculcating the spirit of co-operation,learning and understanding in the students.
