SC seeks report from Centre,states on Yamuna clean-up drive

“The Central Water Pollution Control Board shall take samples of water of river Yamuna from the states of Haryana,Delhi and Uttar Pradesh till Agra and submit their report within four weeks,” the bench said.

It directed all the authorities related to control of Yamuna Water Pollution to gives details of the steps taken by them in this regard.

“How many committees have been appointed under the orders of this court,or otherwise,by the state governments directly with reference to this writ petition. Details with regard to the functioning of these committees,analysis of the reports,if any,submitted by the said committees and implementation of their reports,may also be furnished,” the bench. It posted the matter for further hearing after six weeks.

The court was hearing a case,in which it had taken suo motu cognisance of an article published in a national daily in 1994 on pollution in Yamuna.
