An armed gang of robbers,in a black Scorpio car, waylaid a CMS collection van near Link Road in Kasna area of Greater Noida and allegedly looted it of Rs 30 lakh around 4 pm on Monday. The sole gunman in the van could not do much to prevent the crime.
According to police, the victims driver Devender, gunman Gajraj and employees Amit and Praveen had collected money from shops in Greater Noida and were returning to their office in Patparganj. Police said that the robbers, about four to five persons in number, also hit Devender with his pistol.
The police, however,do not believe that the robbed amount came up to Rs 30 lakh as claimed. The driver and the gunman still have a bag containing Rs 17 lakh, which means that the actual amount was not Rs 30 lakh. I cant bring myself to believe that the assailants took one bag and left other. We are investigating the case, said Atul Saxena,SP (Rural).
We are trying to talk to all the shopkeepers to assess the exact amount collected by CMS, said a senior police officer.
Two other incidents of robbery were also reported from the National Capital Region.
In the first incident,Urmila Devi,a resident of Sihani Gate in Ghaziabad, was robbed of Rs 3.75 lakh after she withdrew the amount from a Punjab National Bank branch at Nand Gram. According to the victim, two motorcycle-borne culprits struck after her sons scooter broke down while they were on their way home.
In another incident,a contractor,Sanjay Tyagi, lost a briefcase containing Rs 9.5 lakh after he was allegedly distracted by two thieves near Old Bus Station,Ghaziabad.
