How about a Cannes-like experience of watching the whole five hours of Gangs of Wasseypur in one go? Or owning the scarf worn by Shammi Kapoor in 1961 for Junglee,or the sweater he wore in 1971 for Andaz? With all these promises in hand, the Capital is looking forward to the Osian’s 12th Cinefan Film Festival of Indian,Asian and Arab cinema — to be held between July 27 and August 5 at the twin venues — Siri Fort and The Kila complex in Mehrauli.

With “Freedom of Creative Thought and Expression” as the theme this year, the festival, being organised by the Mumbai-based Osian’s in collaboration with the Delhi Government, will feature 175 films — including 61 short films from 38 countries. Out of the total 175 screenings, there will be 15 world premieres, eight international premieres,13 Asian premieres and 104 Indian premieres.

Along with exploring genres such as animation, children’s films, short films and environmental films, tributes will also be paid to cinema icons such as Mani Kaul and Japanese filmmakers Koji Wakamatsu and Masao Adachi. Besides the screenings of Kaul’s films such as Uski Roti (1969),Nazar (1989),Dhrupad (1982),and Duvidha (1973),the tribute to Kaul will also have sound recordists and cameramen who have worked with him participate in the Mani Kaul Memorial Lecture.

The films will compete in four categories: Asian and Arab,Indian,First Features and Shorts, with a jury comprising Marco Mueller, director of Rome Film Festival; Muzaffar Ali,who made Umrao Jaan (for the Asian and Arab section); to Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, who will judge the Indian section. Besides,a two-day summit will discuss Delhi as India’s next film city.

In addition to all this,Indian cinema’s memorabilia will go under the hammer on July 31 — including garments and accessories worn by prominent film personalities, and film posters.
