Two youths threw acid on a group of five elderly men who were playing cards in a park in Badarpur,South Delhi,police said on Sunday.
A 65-year-old man,Shradhanand Sharma,suffered 75 per cent burns and has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital,police added.
According to police,the youths asked Sharma and his friends for water. Sharma told them that they did not have water. This angered the duo,police added.
The two accused are reported to be in the age group of 20 to 24 years.
They asked my uncle and others for water. My uncle said they didnt have a water bottle with them and resumed the game of cards. Suddenly,one of them threw acid on them, said Manoj,Sharmas relative. He added that the two men fled after throwing acid on his uncle and others. Police are still looking for the accused.
Sharma used to work with the National Thermal Power Corporation and is retired now. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at a DDA colony in Badarpur.
He suffered 75 per cent burn injuries after a group of boys threw acid at him on Friday afternoon, police said.
Sharmas four friends also suffered burn injuries. All the victims were first taken to Apollo Hospital and later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital. All men,except Sharma,have been discharged,police said.
Others were also injured,but were discharged after first-aid. Police said they are stable. My uncle is battling for life, said Manoj.
A case has been registered at the Badarpur police station and investigations in the case are on,police said.
