Psychologist Madhumita Puri, who has been organising shows with young artists and ploughing the money into Art for Prabhat,an NGO for differently-abled children,is now thinking economy canvas. She has organised the exhibition “More Art at Affordable Price” at Arpana Caur’s gallery Zaza Space at Greater Kailash. There are 12 words by five artists and prices have been reduced by 25-50 per cent.

An acrylic and oil canvas of Asit Patnaik, which was once pegged at about Rs 4 lakh, would come at half the market rate of Rs 2.10 lakh. Artist Laxman Aeylay whose work has been pegged at Rs 2 lakh comes at a slightly lower Rs 1.5 lakh. “The frenzy of buying has gone. People have become more cautious and mature in the way of picking up art works. There’s a need to accommodate our economic situation,” says Puri, who has worked extensively with the artists from the Bengal school over the years and has watched the prices of some artists soar. Catch Bikash Poddar’s works, historical monuments in the dark by artist Tapan Biswas, and Uttam Basak’s female figures lounging about in strange discontent.

Show is on till May 25. Contact 23414666
