Real estate agent kills 6-yr-old daughter, tries to kill himself

Police said Kanwal began beating his six-year-old daughter with an iron rod after an argument with his wife.

He also punched the child a couple of times, the police said, adding that the child collapsed on the floor and he turned the rod on his elder daughter.

“He forced his elder daughter’s head into a bucket of water after which he attempted to strangle her. His wife, who also suffered injuries in the attack, wrestled her daughter free from him. Kanwal then walked into his fourth floor balcony and jumped off,” a senior police officer said. His fall, however, was cushioned by electricity cables. He fell to the ground and fractured his legs, the police said.

According to sources, the couple has another daughter, the eldest. She had gone for tuition. Police said they received a PCR call and rushed to the rented accommodation in Shivaji Vihar.

“The children were taken to hospital, where the six-year-old was declared brought dead, while the father and daughter are being treated in hospital,” the officer said.

Police said they registered a case of murder and assault and Kanwal would be arrested once he recovered.
