The Union minister said he had spoken to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on the situation on the campus. Mehbooba apprised him of the situation and said that instructions had been given for the security of students. “She assured that all students would be safe. She said an inquiry will be conducted to find out how the incident happened and fix responsibility,” he said.
“I spoke to the HRD Ministry Secretary yesterday and told him to send two director-level officers to the NIT so that they can instil confidence in the students, and take steps if there is any problem. Accordingly, two officers have gone there,” he added.
HRD Minister Smriti Irani had spoken to Mehbooba, Singh said. “She (Irani) also said that Mehboobaji has assured that all students will be safe,” he said.
